Bansagar Canal Projects

Bansagar Project is a joint venture of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, under which Bansagar dam is being constructed by M.P. on river Sone at Shahdol district of M.P. To supply water from Bansagar reservoir to U.P. mainly construction of Bansagar Feeder Canal, Adwa-Meja Link Channel, Meja-Jirgo Link Channel, Jirgo Feeder, Garai System & Adwa Barrage is proposed. This project will provide additional irrigation potential of 74523 ha in district Allahabad & 75,309 ha in Mirzapur total 1,50,132 ha.

The work of Project started in 1990. This project is approved by Govt, of U.P.EFC for Rs. 969.74, in which share cost of M.P. is Rs. 334.25 crores. The project has been revised on base year 2006 and approved by U.P. Government E.F.C. for Rs. 2058.01 crores on 31.01.07. The Irrigation & Flood Advisory Committee of Government of India in its 90th meeting on 26-09-2007 gave approval of Rs. 2051.60 crores.

According to revised project total no. of Pucca work are 771 out of which 463 works are completed and 75 no. of works are in progress. Planning is being done to start the remaining works. Beside this Adwa-Meja Link Channel & Meja-Jirgo Link Channel and also other proposed remodeling work of canal systems are in progress. Construction of Adwa Barrage is in progress.

137 Pucca works are proposed in Belan Canal System out of which 119 works have been completed and 11 works are in progress. 13.970 Km. lining work has been completed in Belan Canal System, whereas lining work from Km. 1.900 to Km. 16.585 has been completed in Sirsi Baraundha Feeder Channel.

Construction of Km. 71.497 Bansagar Feeder Channel in Madhaya Pradesh is in progress and so out of 123 no. of pucca works of the feeder channel has been completed and rest 43 no. is in progress. There is 2047meter long Tunnel in the Feeder Channel in which excavation work has been completed in its entire length and 1740 meter lining work in slope of the tunnel has been completed and the rest is in progress.

A sum of Rs. 938.20 crores has been spent on the project till March 2007, and total expenditure till date is Rs. 1184.60 crores. It is proposed to complete the project upto year 2009-10.
